Yesterday Ryan and I went to the Garden Factory and picked out some beautiful plants to have in our new place. An exciting time but also a lot of manual labor involved. 💪🏼
Our pride and joy though is our roughly 50lbs cactus that we had bought a big ole pot for and knew we would have to re-pot it. I’ve only ever re-potted smaller sized cacti so this was an intimidating task. Here are some tips to help if you ever find yourself in the same boat we were in.
What you’ll need:
- Giant cactus (duh)
- Pot & Saucer or Plant Stool
- Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm & Citrus Potting Mix
- Hand shovel
- Masking Tape
- Oven Mitts / Gardening Gloves
Begin by wrapping and taping up your cactus with newspaper so you aren’t constantly getting poked – wrap it around a few times building some layers. Then you can start digging around the cactus to loosen up the soil. Put on your oven mitts or gloves and start shifting your cactus in all directions until it finally breaks away! Place it in the new pot and fill with the new soil – make it very compact. Do not water – wait at least 2-3 weeks until it adjusts to its new environment.
